directors-historyThe SII (Security Institute of Ireland) was founded in February 1981 and granted a licence by the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism. It is a ‘not for profit’ organisation owned by its members. The Board of Directors, elected by the members appoints a CEO (Chief Executive Officer), senior officers and working committees.

The SII purpose, as one of the largest Certification and Education Bodies in Ireland, is to promote and encourage the highest academic and educational standards in Programme Development, Trainer Qualification, Certification, Ethics and CPD (Continuous Professional Development), in Ireland and Internationally. The SII Corporate Section represents companies involved in the following areas: Manned Guarding; Door Security; Alarms; Electronics; Monitoring; Equipment Manufacture; Locks and Safes; Cash-in-Transit; Private Investigations; Close Protection and Training.

As the Irish sectoral representative organisation it is a member of CoESS and engages in the EU Social Dialogue for the European Security industry. It is fully committed, in all areas, to engaging in social dialogue with Irish, EU and Global Social Partners (Security Unions).

The Security Institute conforms to ISO 9001:2008 and the IQNet Management System Standards for the provision of Education and Certification services. As an internationally recognised certification body, it also conforms to the ISO/IEC 17024 Standard for the Certification of Persons. The Institute is a QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) Quality Assured Education Centre and is on the National Training Authority Training Register.
