About Trainers and Assessors There are two distinct categories of trainer involved in the Institute certification system: In-house trainers are only authorised to deliver and assess certain courses for their employer staff only. In-house trainers are employees of the company in which they conduct training activity. In-house trainers cannot charge or receive fees from candidates. The main criteria is that they be entered on the security industry trainer – in-house category of the National Qualifications Register and be employed by the company whose staff they train. A list of Security Industry Trainers – In-house category is available on the National Qualifications Register (NQR) on the Institute website. Commercial trainers have substantially higher levels of autonomy and a much broader scope in the training environment. Commercial trainers can train both in-house staff and accept fees from companies or individuals for training. Most commercial trainers are also approved assessors and may offer access to qualifications through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The register indicates the county in which the trainer is based for reference, all trainers will travel extensively. While commercial trainers are independent of the institute they must go through a rigorous process including vetting, tax compliance, adequate insurance as well as university level qualifications and subject matter expertise before they are entered on the Institute National Register of Approved Trainers (NRAT). They must also adhere to a code of conduct, attend annual refresher sessions and comply with institute terms and conditions for certification. The National Register of Approved Trainers (NRAT) is available on the institute website. |
